La Roche Posay's products all look really similar So here is a pic of what ED looks like! |
I added this product to my day and night routine after recommendations from, not one, but three friends. However, I still picked up this product without having too much expectations, as my past experiences with spot treatments (Body Shop's Tea Tree oil, Benzoyl Peroxide, and etc) have not convinced me otherwise. But you know what, spoiler alert, this product is a keeper and I am happy to say that there will always be a spot for this little guy in my day and night routine. Until, of course, I find a better alternative XD
My Review:
The result of this product? Simply, on point.
I would leave it at that, but you guys are here to read about details ;)
Essentially, this product really helps in terms of reducing the amount of time a pimple exists on your face. By no means will this product make your bumps disappear the next day, but it does speed up the process considerably.
Treating Nodules
In the last posts I had mentioned that I used to get nodules, a pimple that develops deep within the skin with no openings. It takes about a month for nodules to go away on their own ; however, with the help of ED, it usually flattens after two weeks. Unfortunately, the scar it leaves lasts way longer than a month... Scars are something ED isn't particularly effective against.
Treating Whiteheads and Pustules
The results of ED in terms of treating whiteheads and pustules are much more visible. Whiteheads are tiny white pimples that appear on the skin with no pain while pustules are inflamed, pus-filled whiteheads that stings to the touch. Whiteheads usually go away the next morning after I apply ED the previous night.
In terms of pustules, the redness is usually reduced significantly the next day. The pustules themselves no longer stings upon touch. The pustules are turned into something akin to a large whitehead after a single night. At the same time, it's visible that pustules that have been treated with ED dry up. They would also usually disappear after two nights of application.
Using ED to Prevent Pimples
I would definitely use ED in preventing pimples. If I feel any bumps or flat areas that hurts, I would apply ED that night. Usually, by the second day, the small bump would disappear or the area becomes painless. If ED is applied early enough (before the pimple had a chance to develop), I can turn a possible nodule into a pustule, and a pustule into a whitehead. Thereby, greatly reducing the severity of the breakout and time needed to recover.

Just a tiny amount for each spot is enough |

Application
Usually, products containing SA dry out the skin, but ED is an acne treatment as well as a hydrating lotion. I use it as a spot treatment, only dabbing it onto one small area at a time, so I've never experienced flaky skin with ED.
There are no weird sensations after application, it's a whitish lotion that is not thick in consistency. It also contains somewhat of a fragrance. A 40 ml bottle will last a long time if it is exclusively used as a spot treatment.
Conclusion
La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo is a paraben-free hydrating lotion that greatly reduces the time it takes for a pimple to disappear. It does not dry out the skin and contains 0.5% Salicylic Acid. This product has been widely praised by many users, and has been recommended to me by many friends. In addition, I personally really like the results that ED provides.
