Review: The Face Shop's Real Nature Sheet Masks
Hey Bumbles!
I've been wanting to post this review for awhile! Now that it's Christmas, literally, and 3 months of MIA, I'm ready to come back. Yeah, I'm pretty bad at time management (although my resume says otherwise), so I haven't been able to keep up with a review per week. :P
Anyway, I'm doing a review that has been long overdue! I actually started writing this review in September, but kind of left it there as school got busy. Nevertheless, I'm back with the full review today! I purchased 15 Real Nature Mask Sheets from The Face Shop when they were having a promotional event where you get 5 complimentary masks with the purchase of 10. I've finished all 15, but today's review is mostly limited to the sheet masks that are in green packaging.
Basically the green packaged face masks is said to target hydration and lock in moisture, which is one of the most important factors in reducing acne, at least that's what I've been told by the sales person -_-.
On a side note, I've also purchased 15 sheet masks at Amore, but recently my obsession for sheet masks died down a bit. I doubt I will be using them anytime soon, but if I do finish I will definitely have a comparison review up.
The green packaged Real Nature Sheet Masks from The Face Shop
What it Claims:
I got these claims from The Face Shop's website, their general claim is that the masks detoxes and moisturizes, leaving your skin soft and hydrated.

Sorry for the terrible photo quality, but you get the point :P |
What it Claims:
I got these claims from The Face Shop's website, their general claim is that the masks detoxes and moisturizes, leaving your skin soft and hydrated.
Green Tea: "This Real Nature Mask invigorates skin and leaves it silky soft. Enriched with green tea with purifying and antioxidant properties, it is the perfect solution for skin that has been damaged by the environment."
Cucumber: "This Face Mask refreshes the skin and leaves it brighter, with a flawless appearance! Rich in vitamins and minerals, the cucumber extra moisturizes dry skin and leaves it soft"
Aloe: "Your skin will be soft and supple in a couple of minutes with this Aloe Face Mask. The Aloe Extract, with soothing properties, offers softness and hydration to skin."
Kelp: "This Face Mask purifies skin, leaving it soft to the touch. It contains kelp extract to help eliminate impurities and protect skin from pollution. Perfect for urban dwellers!"
Bamboo: "Get younger looking skin and an even complexion with the Bamboo Real Nature Face Mask. The hydrating and purifying properties of bamboo make it perfect for fighting the first signs of aging"
Mung Bean: "The Mung Bean Real Nature Masks leaves skin clear and radiant. In just a couple of minutes, it helps eliminate impurities that clog your pores, to leave your skin dazzling."
The mung bean isn't really packaged in green, but I threw it in the review because it makes similar claims. If you are to read on, you will realize that all the Real Nature Masks end up having similar effects on the skin, despite their attempt to get the customer to buy multiple masks with their marketing phrases.
Price:
The sheet masks are $2 CAD each. They often have promotional events where you buy 10 pieces and receive 5 extra ones. This promotion is only limited to Real Nature Masks.
Some Background
In recent years (by recent I mean the last couple of years), The Face Shop has been popping up everywhere. But I've only started using Face Shop's products this past summer, and so far I've only ever tried their masks.
I like going into the store and check out their products. They are all nicely packaged and the overall nature/natural theme of the store is very inviting. I suppose its a good way to get their message across, "a brand that shares the benefits of nature". However, I would remain skeptical about how natural and green the brand really is.
My Review:
*Truth Alert*
I am going to be completely honest here; it doesn't matter what each masks' claims are, and it doesn't matter if they are green packaged masks or other color packaged masks, they are all the same.
Yes, kelp is known for detoxing, cucumber is for hydration, green tea is good for treating acne, aloe is for soothing the skin and so on. But the difference these ingredients make in these sheet mask is almost none existent.
I know this review is suppose to focus on the green packaged masks, but I've tried their other Real Nature Masks as well. I didn't think any of the sheet masks are any different from each other.
The fit of the mask is a hit or miss. The sheets either fits terribly because they are too big, or they are sized slightly better, just slightly though. Nevertheless, I always had issues trying to fit the sheets properly.
Results:
There's not much to say about the results other than the fact that not much happens. During the summer I used the sheet masks twice a week for about two months. The sales rep told me that if I kept my faced hydrated it would reduce the amount of acne I had been experiencing. But it didn't help at all, my acne was still pretty bad up until November of this year.
After peeling off the mask, my face always felt uncomfortably sticky no matter which type of sheet mask I used (Kelp, cucumber, etc). I find this rather intriguing as the serums from the mask is not meant to be washed off. There is always a layer of sticky residue that is on my face no matter how long I wait.
In terms of next day results, I would always wake up with an abnormally oily face. The sales rep told me this would happen if I failed to "properly lock in the moisture with a good moisturizer". (I smell BS here)
On the bright side, despite making my face oily, the sheet masks didn't cause me anymore breakouts than I was already experiencing. But then again, why do we ever give props to a product because it didn't make things worse? The only reason for our purchase is to expect good results.
Conclusion
I guess it's nice to just throw on a mask once in a while, and I won't lie, it feels damn good to see a nice collection of sheet masks in my fridge. However, I am not sold by the results they provided, and I think its really just a waste of money. Like I said before, the different types of mask makes no difference. I don't find my face looking visibly more clear if I used a Kelp sheet mask for detoxing, nor do I find my face more hydrated if I were to use a cucumber sheet mask.
I used to think that it didn't really matter what I was using as long as I was using something. Nowadays I seriously doubt the continuous use of these masks really provide any real benefits in the long run. I mean, it's only two bucks so I guess there are barely any monetary risk. I encourage you guys to try it and see for yourself as skin products varies depending on individuals. But personally I've moved on to look for other products that are more worthwhile.
Quick Summary

Would I Purchase it Again?
I didn't really talk about this, but despite all the other cons that the sheet masks already possess, the fact that the masks contains Paraben is a major contributing factor as to why I would not purchase them again.

I love tea tree products they are usually very helpful with my combination, sensitive skin type and they have beneficial can used for skin condition that I have. I like face mask green tea from the face shop , because the packaging is nice and price is Not expensive . After about 10-12 minutes use this product , I can feel a refreshing cool over in my face very invigorating .
ReplyDeleteThe face mask green tea with purifying and antioxidant properties, it is the perfect solution for my skin that has been damaged by the environment. My skin feels smooter and just all around cleaner and less inflamed. My skin feel just smooter and just all around cleaner and less inflamed. I dont see the harm in using it more frequently.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteI am glad the face masks from the face shop works well for you! I am definitely not saying one shouldn't try them, it is just that the masks have not worked well for me :( They often leave my face feeling sticky and makes my face feel super oily. I have acne-prone skin, so I felt that the masks did not work well for me :)
Well I came here looking for which one should I buy bcoz there's great offer out there for *buy5get5* so I was confused with tht. But now I'm confused should I even buy.
DeleteHey Amb!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, and I am sorry I made you more confused :(
Personally, I've moved past masks from the face shop, especially the collections mentioned in this blog post! First of all, they contain a lot of ingredients that I personally do not like, and second of all, I just find them having very limited effect. You can certainly use these mask as a hydration boost for you skin, but I wouldn't put much hope for the other mentioned uses such as "detoxing" or "cleansing". Regardless, it doesn't hurt to try them! The Face Shop always has great deals, so if you miss out on this one, don't worry!
Also, I've mentioned previously that the masks leave my skin feeling sticky and oily. One easy solution to that is just wash the serum off afterwards. I know the mask is a no-rinse mask, but I find it much better to rinse as my face is still hydrated from the mask, but it is not sticky and oily from the residue. Best of luck Amb!
DeleteYeah i just used one and i am not impressed. My first experience last week i used the Lotus one and got a burning sensation on my chin so i stopped immediately and called the Face Shop and they told me its because i hadn't put it in the fridge prior to using it and that i used it wrong. 2nd time was today i had them all in the fridge and used the Green Tea one and my face feels really greasy afterwards...i just want to wash it off and not wait till morning. I would say not worth the money especially since the deal sounds too good to be true. Buy 5 get additional 6 masks was mine. I think there is a reason they are giving a way so many.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I totally agree! Especially looking back now (it's been a while since I wrote this post), the masks sometimes gives a burning sensation and feels super oily afterwards. I definitely recommend washing it off after each use!
