Review: Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
Product:
Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
Price:
$36 for a 15ml and $58 for 28ml
Claims:
"Gently moisturizes the delicate eye area"
"Concentrated texture does not migrate into your eyes"
Some Background:
Can we talk about those fine lines that are already appearing at the delicate part of the eye? It used to be that I can only see it when I smile, but now THEY ARE JUST THERE ALL THE TIME. So, I started my hunt for an eye cream that has anti-aging and moisturizing properties. And, you will see in a bit that Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado IS NOT what I was looking for. ( I wish I liked it, I really do)
A Quick Ramble:
I was actually really excited when I bought this eye cream, because I just spend $40 bucks (including tax) on a 15ml jar, so that must mean I just bought something that WORKS AMAZINGLY, right? Well, I should know better than that. Expensive, big brand products ≠ good products.
Okay, $40 bucks for an eye cream is alright, comparing it to other seriously expensive, high end brands. But I was so disappointed with the result that it just magnified the fact that I spent $40 on something I ended up not liking.
From reading the reviews of other people, I know that it is an eye cream with thick consistency, and it could potentially be a negative trait. However, I had no problem with the consistency. The problem is that it contains a bunch of preservatives and the cream really doesn't help with the reduction of fine lines at all.
I know that eye creams are not miracle creams that make fine lines disappear or make you look younger instantly, but given that I am in my early twenties, I would have fine lines mostly due to dehydration. However, the supposedly very moisturizing avocado eye cream does not help at all. I guess it's partly my fault as well, since this eye cream contains no anti-aging properties to begin with, it didn't fit what I was looking for anyway.
So the moral of the story? I probably shouldn't assume products are suitable for me just because they are high-end and well-liked (hyped up) by others. Moreover, I shouldn't jump on a bandwagon for a product that clearly didn't suit me. (Admit it, we all fell for those 'hyped up' products before)
Review:
In my opinion, I feel that this eye cream does not moisturize the eye area all that much. I have no issues with the thick consistency because I can always use less and really try to apply it as evenly as possible. However, much of the cream doesn't get absorbed by the skin at all, it just sits at the bottom of the eye.
The eye cream comes in two different sized jars that requires you to dip your finger in to scoop out the cream. First of all, that's pretty unsanitary and it's pretty easy to get dirt into the jar (ex: lints and fine hair or something). Second, because it is a jar container, the life span of the ingredients are reduced significantly. On the back of the jar it says that once opened, the product is good for 6 months. But I feel that a jar container does not give enough protection of the product for the ingredients to even last 6 months before it becomes ineffective, or worse, contaminated. Also, if you are debating between getting the bigger jar or smaller jar, I say go for the smaller one because you won't be able to finish it before 6 months anyway.
Now let's talk about what the ingredients, this wonderful little eye cream jar contains "Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, and Propylparaben". I was pretty shocked after seeing the ingredient list because for some reason I thought Kiehl's was a very natural brand, or at least a paraben-free brand( at least that's the impression I got).
Application
Like I've mentioned previously, this eye cream has a very thick consistency. But you can easily work your way around it by using less, or by rubbing it between your fingers and then dabbing it onto the eye area. I don't purpose rubbing any skincare on, just because the skin absorbs products better when it's been patted on. As well, the eye area is very delicate, you don't want to be rubbing it as it makes the eye area prone to wrinkles.
Conclusion
In my opinion, Kiehl's Creamy Eye treatment with Avocado is nothing special and does not live up to the hype at all. I wouldn't consider this cream to be a product that is especially designed for the eyes because it really has no other effects other than the little moisture it provides. I can just apply a regular moisturizer or serum around my eye area, and it would probably a cheaper and better solution.
Quick Summary
Pros
- At least their claim is somewhat right, it doesn't migrate into your eyes at all because it just sits on your skin, doesn't even get absorbed fully ( damn, I sound so sour)
Cons
- Bad package design
- Contains Paraben
- Expensive
- No anti-aging properties
- Contains no SPF
- Does not reduce fine lines through moisturizing

Would I purchase it Again?
I accidentally dropped this product after using this for about 2 weeks, and half of it spilled out. But you know, I was pretty damn happy because I was so ready to move on to a new product already. However, I feel bad for wasting it so I'm still determined to finish it up. So no, I would NOT purchase it again. In fact, I probably won't be buying anything from Kiehl's either :(
Looking at all the reviews I've done, I seem to very rarely give out positive reviews. Being mean and negative is definitely not my intention, but I understand that I may come across as that way, and I do apologize.
I really just want to share my experience with the different products that I try on a consumer stand point, not an expert or guru stand point. As a consumer, I feel the emotions of disappointment and annoyance when products fail to live up to their claims, or when the products turn out to be something completely different, especially when the brand is different from what I thought. Hence, I am sharing these experiences so that maybe there will be less consumers feeling angry and disappointed. But nevertheless, different products work for different people, it is always good to try things for yourself and make your own decisions. Life is short, take some (calculated) risks :)
